New Zealand native plants


This section of the web site provides information about New Zealand's native flora (including vascular plants, mosses, lichens and liverworts) and fungi. These are the plants and fungi that occur within the New Zealand botanic region. The New Zealand Botanic Region is defined in Flora of New Zealand Volume 1 by H.H. Allan (1961) as consisting of the islands lying within 29-55o South latitude and 158o East – 176o West longitude (except Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island).

More detailed information about threatened species is stored under the ‘Threatened Species’ section of the website. Exotic plant and weed information is stored under ‘Threats to plant life’.
