The protection of habitats, plant populations or plant communities can involve a combination of a wide range of activities. It means protecting what you already have from threats as opposed to the process of ecological restoration which means putting something back that has been lost. At Ocean Beach (see above), near Bream Head (Northland), the Bream Head Conservation Trust is working to protect and restore the entire peninsula through a combination of pest control, fencing and weed management.
