Vascular plants are the most commonly seen plants as the ferns, gymnosperms and angiosperms all fall within this category. There are an estimated 1.9 million species of vascular plant worldwide, and approximately 2362 species in New Zealand. Although numbers vary, many botanists feel that at least a further 200 entities remain undescribed in New Zealand and many of these may well prove to be new species.
