The purpose of the vote is to find out why New Zealanders love their native plants and help raise a greater awareness and appreciation of native plants. The 2021 vote is currently open and runs until midnight 31 October.
To cast your vote, simply search for your favourite native plant using the ‘Flora Search’ and click on the orange ‘Vote’ button. Or check out the leader board and cast a vote for something already getting support from others.
The vote is based on a similar project carried out in the United Kingdom by the Conservation Organisation Plant Life UK. Previously data collected have been used by DOC in developing its national conservation programme and provide insights into which species are loved the most and why.
