In 2005 the Network received funding from the NZ Government’s Biodiversity Advice Fund to develop a plant conservation training course for iwi. The Network travelled the country asking iwi what they most wanted from a plant training course. The result was the development of five plant conservation training modules.
The modules available or being developed are:
- Introduction to plant life in New Zealand
- Covenant management
- Plant nursery management and propagation (available as PDF only)
- Streamside and wetland management
- Marae makeover
- Read about the pilot course
This work was done in collaboration with NorthTec which has been involved in plant training programmes for many years and runs an innovative range of horticulture and sustainable practices courses that are delivered at marae and rural areas throughout Northland.
