Throughout New Zealand there are more than 3500 ecological restoration projects being undertaken by schools, landowners, communities and government agencies. Collectively these restoration groups and projects represent a desire on the part of New Zealanders to rejuvenate the indigenous ecological ecosystems that once dominated the New Zealand landscape.
National organisations which help interested volunteers join up with ecological restoration projects include:
- Department of Conservation
- Forest & Bird
- NZ Landcare Trust
- New Zealand Wetland Trust
- Coastal Restoration Network
- Conservation Volunteers New Zealand
- NZ Trust for Conservation Volunteers
To find out what is happening at a regional scale contact your regional council or nearest catchment group. Southland has a dedicated website to connect people with restoration groups in the region: Southland Ecological Restoration Network
