Etymology

eucalyptus: From the Greek eu ‘good or well’ and calypha ‘covered’, alluding to the calyx which covers the flower like a lid.

crenulata: From the Latin crenus ‘notch’, meaning with notches which give a leaf margin the appearance of having small rounded teeth

First recorded from New Zealand as naturalising on the eastern shore of Lake Wairarapa near Boggy Pond where saplings were located growing in the vicinity of planted, fruiting, adult trees
