Can be either annual to biennial. Reproduces exclusively by seed. Seed is long-lived forms a large seed bank. Dispersal is mainly by humans and as accidental contaminant in top soil or grass seed.

Etymology

brassica: From the Latin brassica used by Pliny the Elder, derived from the Celtic bresic, the name for cabbage.
