Detailed description
Dense, compact, green, moss forming tufts or cushions 10-20 mm tall. Leaves 1.0-1.5 mm long, spreading when moist, and appressed and wavy; narrowly lanceolate, apices acute, when dry. Setae 4.5-9.0 mm long. Capsules spheroidal, erect, opercula rather elongated with an oblique beak. Peristome absent.
Distribution
Indigenous with a cosmopolitan distirbution. Known in New Zealand from a few sites in the northern South Island.
Substrate details
Saxicolous on base-rich rocks such as limestone, marble, and basalt. Usually in upland limestone flushes, where it forms tufa-encrusted turfs. Also growing in damp crevices and occasionally on the mortar of old walls.
Threats
Listed because there is so little information about this moss from which to form an accurate conservation assessment.
