Detailed description

The cap is 0.7–1.5 cm diameter, convex when young but slightly centrally depressed at maturity. It is slightly viscid under wet conditions, otherwise dry, glabrous or finely creviced. It is pale red to pastel red. The margins are entire and thin. The gills, which are joined to the stipe (adnate), are moderately distant, thin, simple, to 2.5 mm deep. They are white, not discoloured at maturity. Lamellulae are rare. The stalk is 1–1.5 cm long, ± equal, 3–4 mm in diameter. It is solid, dry, finely felted under lens, and white. The flesh is white, unchanging on exposure to air. The spores are ovate to broadly elliptical, 9.5–11.5 x 8–10 µm. They are obliquely apiculate, with the apiculus up to 1.5 µm long. Ornamentation consists of dense, amyloid, truncated spines to 2 µm high, in small confluent groups, joined basally by fine to moderately coarse amyloid ridges and forming an incomplete reticulum.
