We’re looking for a Senior Regional Advisor – Flora to lead best-practice ecological and botanical protection across Tāmaki Makaurau. This is more than a technical role—it’s about building relationships, collaborating with experts, and ensuring Auckland’s biodiversity thrives.
In this role, you will offer expert ecological and botanical guidance to shape policy, operational programs, and conservation initiatives. You will collaborate closely with internal teams, iwi, community groups, researchers, conservation agencies, and specialist conservation networks to enhance regional biodiversity efforts.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a space that blends science, strategy, and social connection—bringing people together to protect and restore indigenous flora.
You could expect to work on:
- Lead the development of best-practice methods for protecting, restoring, and monitoring indigenous flora, including threatened plant species.
- Provide specialist advice on large-scale projects, policy development, and strategic biodiversity initiatives
- Build relationships and collaborate with conservation groups, researchers, and stakeholders to ensure botanical protection is a shared effort.
- Drive botanical restoration and biodiversity management across Auckland Council and the wider conservation community.
- Contribute to research, monitoring programmes, and data management to inform decision-making.
He kōrero mōu: About you
This role requires experience in the ecological conservation and biodiversity management space. You will have worked in similar roles within large, complex, and potentially political organisations, where balancing scientific best practices with stakeholder engagement and regulatory considerations is key.
We are looking for someone with:
- Expertise in NZ ecology, particularly indigenous flora—a Bachelor’s degree in botany, ecology, or a related field is essential (Master’s preferred).
- Extensive experience in ecology, biodiversity conservation, and botanical research.
- Well-established connections within the botanical community, with the capability to effectively engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including researchers, policymakers, and local communities.
- Expertise in plant identification, ecosystem management, monitoring techniques, and statutory processes (RMA).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with experience in ESRI ArcGIS and ecological analysis software an advantage.
