Rōpū hononga Koiora Taiao ki Aotearoa | the New Zealand Plant Conservation Network (NZPCN) has launched its new He Pihi Kāuru fund, a native plant conservation fund for Māori and Moriori communities. The purpose of the fund is to support Māori and Moriori native plant conservation or ecosystem restoration by nurturing new ideas, supporting emerging opportunities and empowering Māori whānau, hapū and Moriori hunau, pui to realise their plant conservation aspirations.
Examples of projects the fund would encourage include Mātauranga Māori focused conservation and restoration methods; restoration projects for native plant species; conservation projects for native plant species including seed banking; research to support conservation of native plant species, and community engagement for education programmes increasing awareness of native plant species. Applications for the fund open via the NZPCN website on Monday 26th October and close on 27th November 2026.
