Live Material of Lepyrodia Wanted For Dna Sequencing
Lepyrodia R.Br. (Restionaceae) is an endemic Australian genus of rush-like plants. It is recognised as the sister genus to Sporadanthus F.Muell. New Zealand has two endemic species of Sporadanthus, S. ferrugineus confined to the northern North Island, and S. traversii known only from the Chatham Islands group. The Marsden funded Chatham Island Emergent Arch Research Programme (CHeARS) has obtained DNA sequences for the two New Zealand species but require comparable sequences for Lepyrodia to complete their research. Before attempting to obtain material of this genus from Australia, they are keen to see if anyone in New Zealand has plants in cultivation that they might be able to use.
