Current conservation status
The conservation status of all known New Zealand vascular plant taxa at the rank of species and below were reassessed in 2022-2023 using the New Zealand Threat Classification System (NZTCS) – more information about this can be found on the NZTCS website. This report includes replaces all previous NZTCS lists for vascular plants. Previous assessments can be found here.

Detailed description
For a detailed description (as Trichomanes humile) see Flora of New Zealand
Similar taxa
Polyphlebium endlicherianum which is also present on Raoul Island.
Distribution
Indigenous. Kermadec Islands (Raoul Island only). Circumtropical—widespread throughout the Pacific and in Asia and northern Australia.
Habitat
Confined to ‘wet forest’ on Raoul Island where it plants have been found growing as low epiphyte amongst Radula cordiloba subsp. erigens and on shaded rock faces on the eastern flank of Prospect.
Threats
The only known New Zealand population is confined to Raoul Island, an active volcanic island and part of the Kermadec Islands Nature Reserve. There the species is judged secure from human related threats. However, Crepidomanes humile was only recognised in May 2011 and it does seem to be genuinely scarce on Raoul Island based on the lack of previous collections and its current seemingly very limited occurrence near Prospect.

Taxonomic notes
NZPCN now follows Ebihara et al. (2006) in recognising Crepidomanes as distinct from Trichomanes—although Brownsey & Perrie (2016) rejected this idea, the generic segregation was adopted by the PPG I (2016) and is now widely followed throughout the world.
