Tree. Reproduces exclusively by seed. Seed is long-lived forms a large seed bank - usually retained in persistent pods for several years. Dispersed by wind, gravity and by people.

Etymology

gleditsia: Named after Johann Gottlieb Gleditsch (1714-1786) medical doctor and past director of the Berlin Botanic Gardens.
