Distribution
Endemic. North, South, Stewart, Auckland and Campbell islands. In the North Island, uncommon, from the central ranges and volcanic plateau south.
Habitat
Montane to subalpine peat bogs, tarns, pools and slow-flowing stream margins, descending to sea level in the southern part of its range.

Minute seeds are wind dispersed (Thorsen et al., 2009).

Difficult. Should not be removed from the wild.
