Status note
Hypericum gramineum is known in New Zealand from only a few old collections. It may be indigenous, perhaps a failed colonisation as assumed here or it may be an exotic species that failed to naturalise.
Etymology
hypericum: From the Greek hyper (above) and eikon (picture), the plant was hung above pictures to ward off evil spirits
