In the field this species has a similar appearance to a Rytidosperma, but there is only one floret per spikelet. The obvious hairs around the floret and the awn projecting beyond the glumes distinguish D. aucklandica from other species of Deyeuxia
Easy from fresh seed and rooted pieces. Does best in a cool or shaded spot. Will tolerate water logged soils
